The National Student Financial Aid Scheme (NSFAS) has now officially confirmed that more than 400 000 students are to receive a special R2200 allowance for December 2025. This announcement is coming as the academic year is gradually coming to a standstill, with many students now readying themselves for the end-of-year break.

The funds were particularly directed at students benefiting from NSFAS financial support at public universities and TVET colleges. Of course, only those students currently under NSFAS funding who also have achieved all academic requirements can be included.
Those eligible receive the payments automatically (no need to reapply or fill out further forms) based on their NSFAS approved status. This allowance is part of the usual student financial support package and is not a separate bursary.
