The Government of South Africa granted an additional amount of R1050 to the elderly to raise grandeur over the news. Early communication–one that reached us through public debates and print media–states that this amount is meant to help millions of pensioners against the cost of living.
While we anticipate an official circular from the SASSA on this matter, a post on my Linkedin linked to the ongoing Update on the social media group “South African Group” declared that the amount is now secured for release and will be included in the next cycle.
When Will The R1050 Pension Be Paid?
It is genuinely likely that seniors could enjoy the new amount as of the next payday. However, it is stressed that a quick week of updating activity beyond just the first two days of the month may offer a slight delay. This depends on their payment method. Such as making withdrawals at ATMs with bank cards and paying bills over the counter.
Who is Entitled to This Increment
On reaching the sixty year mark, those same recipients of Old Age Grants getting pensions through SASSA up to now would fit the bill for the increase. There are no new rules under this concept; that is, if someone is sixty years of age or over and meets the means test, this should automatically entitle him/her to an extra month of the pension. There is thus no necessity for the pensioners to re-apply, submit papers, or re-visit nurses. Those grants continue to record additional payment.
Reason for Approval
Recent inflation and increased food and electricity prices are pushing elderly South Africans. Over the last few months, talks held starting to intensify into social protection expansion systems and monthly income support mainly for the elderly. The fixed R1050 will extend some kind of wider financial security to the vulnerable groups.
What Should Everyone Do Now?
It is better to wait for the confirmation from SASSA regarding exact payment days. Seniors are also told to make sure they do not give any personal information to unknown callers, directing them to any SASSA official channels for inquiries. Once more, payment dates and time limits will somewhat become clearer once the confirmation is finalized.
